Well guys and gals, our tandem operation got it's first real trial last sunday.
With the new sail, contour harness, moyes design wheels and keel arrangement...Richo convinced his sister in law to join us .
Weather..36+,thermic,light an scaryable...Not a problem. We go through the normal formalities, explaining the glider, the equipment, the flying,do's and dont's and the Hgfa waiver. Then climb aboard the ATOL and wave goodbye to a very quiet husband(always watch the quiet ones)....First tow ...broke a week link at 700 ft...bugger,land,drink."we go again "Sara asks....yup.
Up we go again, this time we tow to 1800ft...more like it...we start turning in 9s on the averager...this is a bit much for a first timer so we head off to look for something a bit more benign...ahh 3s and 400 up .The new sail looks fantastic and handles great, the wheels ...you dont even know they are there....mmmm ,3000ft coming up...Sara is loving it,the view, the cool air,no flies...meanwhile I'm looking for sink !!!!not coming down to quickly..."hey Sara lets do some turns".
After half an hour we work our way back down, this make Sara happy as the sensory overload gauge is full...Richo informs me It's nill on approach...The wheels are brilliant,we round out, touch down ,roll for 50mts.......Love it.....
This is how easy it should be...It has taken alot of time and effort from everybody in this club, and this wouldn't have been possible so soon ,without the support from the state association .
Thankyou....our next stage is to hold information nights to entice more people into this exiting world we play in.Followed by an offer of tandems if they wish,or get them to an instructor for tutition...we need more pilots .We need to nurture them in a club environment....we need more people to fly with.....
Till next time(when I remember my password)
